This isn’t an entire review as it’s an mmo there’s still a lot than what I haven’t played so there will be more updates on this as I play it more I’m only on level 7 of 45 so far.
Fallen earth falls into a category of “I’m still not sure†this game is fun, original and unique, sounds awesome right? Except for the few problems it’s having right now, the game only has US servers which means for us UK/EU players laggy as hell during peak times, lucky I’m out of a job right now so I get to play during the day.
The game has been having updates every 2 days or so which has helped enormously with the video performance but the server is still lagging, the game is still having the problems that most mmo’s have to begin with, bugs not found in beta testing, compatibility and performance of the game and at least they are trying to solve these problems and have been since day one, luckily there isn’t any game breaking problems so far.
Now I know this is supposed to be a MMOFPS but it’s more of a mmorpg/fps as the fps combat is still based off of stats and gear as opposed to skill level, so for me this is good as I’m not the greatest FPS player if you ask any of the LR players they’ll tell you I’m a strategy guy, the game feels like a MMORPG with action based FPS or third person shooter combat and not press now to activate this move/spell although it does have a few spells to cast on yourself or group.
I have been playing this with Macenzie for a couple days now and Kingsknight will be joining us soon so ill get to-do some more group play soon which is what mmo’s are all about, but there seems to be a distinct lack of group play so far anyway but once I’ve played in a group some more ill write about it.
So far my most enjoyable moment has been when me and Macenzie went scavenging, we jumped on our horses rode out-of-town and scoured the desert for junk to help us craft our guns and armour, it’s really hard to explain why running around in the desert on horses looking for piles of junk, plants and ore was so fun, but it really was, the fact you can play the entire game from level1-45 by crafting and scavenging is such great idea, although the way the game’s reward system works it wouldn’t be practical for someone who wants to play the end game and pvp.
Now the way the levelling your skills and attributes system works is a little different to most games, now it has its “Level Experience†bar and its has those little “Bubble Experience†bars those ones that fill up faster, now in most games they just use it a visual way of saying how much experience you have rather than % or numbers “I’m 3 bars into 32†Fallen Earth rewards you with 2 of its Attribute Points (AP) every one of these bars instead of a whole bunch at the end of a level which is a brilliant way of giving small bursts of satisfaction to player as well as there are certain quests through the game which seem to be linked to an overall story to the game which give you 2-5AP as you complete them, which pushes you into questing rather than just running scavenging or just playing it as a generic shooter and killing everything in sight and it works very well as I started out by killing everything and scavenging until I saw someone in the chat say “ I’ve only just realised questing gives you AP†which I went researched quickly and there a lot of these quests that give you AP.
Fallen Earth has a brilliant crafting system possibly one of the best I’ve seen in any MMO and I’ve played several, the games crafting system is just the basic find resources and then turn them into items type of system with 2 extra factors that make it worthwhile to-do whilst you’re levelling rather than after you finish levelling the first thing is game rewards you with XP and skill points every item crafted even when it’s a long way below your level it’s just not as much XP and you can leave the game crafting whilst your offline which is a big thing, but some items do takes hours to craft from what I understand and I don’t think offline crafting would be that useful if they didn’t take hours to craft.
Fallen Earth has a lot of potential once they fix the lag, either by giving players another sever or improving this one, somehow I don’t think they expected the game to-do so well so quickly from I understand, but some of the features and themes in the game are excellent “future wild west†you don’t see an awful lot of games using the concept let alone in a mmo and considering that it’s an indie developers self released game they are doing a pretty good job, they are updating and fixing the game as fast as they can, as well as providing a lot of in game support with usually 3 people on hand to help new player with help on playing the game and help with a few bugs that are lurking around.
Overall Fallen Earth is a pretty good game it plays well, has a lot of interesting ideas and graphically pleasing the only let down is the lag for UK/EU players as the US players probably don’t get the same problem, it’s a pain as I died 8 times trying to kill 6 mobs, in which I rage quitted the game, personally I don’t think I would subscribe to the game right now but really that’s all because of the lag and nothing else as the game itself is pretty solid and fun if they sorted that out I would even consider quitting wow, which is a pretty impressive feat since I’m addicted to games raiding.

Nice review but from the vids that I have seen on you tube it almost looks like a cut down version of FO3 with a little mad max chucked in for good measure.
