After what has happened over the past few days I have spent hours upon hours thinking about a solution to the majority of the current issues surrounding the LAN and venue. I fully acknowledge and apologise for the lack of internet last weekend, which was unfortunately out of our control – I know that a few people were unhappy with the situation.

As some of you will know, I implemented some changes in another post last night due to the venue problems, although after thinking it through since then I have come to the conclusion that steps like this may alienate current and future participants at our lans.

Because of this the decision has been made that J9 will now be the last lan hosted in our current Selborne venue. From now – all and any future LANS except for J9 are now on Hiatus until we can either figure out a better way to take things forward, or secure a more suitable venue.

Due to the issues we faced at the weekend, and because we don't want to put anyone off coming back, we will be offering a special discount to anyone who attended J8, that wants to come to J9. The ticket price will be reduced to £25 for the 4 day LAN, and I will be giving out a discount code which can be entered when you register for J9. All other tickets will be left at £35 for 4 days.

With regards to the kitchen situation. After thinking this through we have two options currently. A) Close the kitchen off all-together or B)Provide a service where the kitchen is closed off, however we will be happy to store your food in the coolers / fridges, as well as putting the oven on for 1hr twice a day, and cooking your meals for you to ensure the kitchen is kept clean. If anyone has any other suggestions we would be happy to hear them.

I would like to make a note that it is worth marking your own food and drink up still, although this is not compulsory. I feel that this may help with the problem of theft which occurred to a few LAN participants at J8.

Another note I would like to make known is that If anyone knows of a suitable Venue that we could host the LAN at in the future, please let me know as soon as possible. If we end up using the venue for a LAN then you will be given a free LAN ticket to the event at the new venue.

On a final note – As this is the last LAN to be held at Selborne hall I want to end it on a high. So if you have any ideas or suggestions that you think will make the LAN more fun let me know – whether it be a themed event, some sort of meal, or even just a fun tournament. Also don't forget to bring as many friends as you can, as we want to make this one to remember!

Aye the problems we all had this time round has cast a shadow over the whole event but it is important that we take a positive outlook on taking the event forward. I'm glad that you are taking those steps!

TBH making the kitchen off limits isn't a bad idea, it’s best if people only bring food that can be cooked in the microwave ect anyway, although I do welcome the limited use of coolers (who likes warm Mountain Dew?).

I think more can be done in coming together as a community and eliminate any "us and them" (punters and staff) mentality and encourage everyone who enjoys the J events to help in any way they can. I think pooling our resources together and finding an alternative venue would be a good first step (I do however appreciate the difficulty of finding venues to suit our needs). I think giving everyone a sense that it is their LAN might encourage everyone to act more responsibly whilst attending.

Anyway sod iSeries I shall be buying my ticket for J9 shortly :)

This is true, and i'm glad that the response to my post has been well recieved so far. We always want people to enjoy the lans, and the last thing we want to put across is a mentality that makes the staff hated, unfortunately at the same time we need to try and take measures to ensure that we don't get chucked out of whatever venue we hold events at.

Finding a venue is incredibly difficult and challenging, as alot of places down right refuse to hold the kind of event we put on, which is why i've asked for our communitys help in finding a new one.

I've already had a few suggestions i'll look into, and any more would be really appreciated.

I personally didnt attend J8 so i shaln't comment, on it or the handling of it. I do know i've had plenty of fun at past events, and have found the staff and other members to be very accomadating, its a shame i cant come to J9, but i look forward to future events where ever they may be. ^_^
